I cry for the world that was
where people flew from place to place
where cities bustled with life
shops chirupped to the sound of money in their tills
where people could wander free without masks
where we did not look on one another as dangerous
where politicians focused on the daily grind
and everyone was employed and had a future
where doctors showed some interest in their patients
and babies were born with both parents present
and those who died were held by their loved ones in their dying hours
where we didn’t have to live in fear of those we loved dying
but could go about our days care-free
I cry for the world we have lost
and pray that it may return.
